woooow what a bad con story... I usually just go to animazement cause... its not that far away, its cheap (maybe 100$ entrance fee, food and accomadations for the whole weekend and thats if i get a hotel with like 2-3 other people) and its relativly small (large crowds make me wanna stab people). I was thinking of going to otacon this year but... overcrowded plus 8 hour drive plus $60 just to get in the door.... im too cheap for that ^^;

Duuuuuude. I went to Animazement this year! Only in the main hall for about an hour, though. But what a coincidence! I have a friend who lived in Cary for sometime. ^^

it's 60 bucks for friday saturday and sunday. I appologize for the correction but it's Otakon >_> like freakin' everyone either pronounces it wrong or spells it wrong. I gotta stick up for it. Hell, I'd be a staffer if that wasn't such a stupid idea. Otakon is theo nly con i've ever been to, but i find that from what people say it's one of the best ( the more pregnant doging people do the more they like it when they keep coming without fail lol )

This year's Otakon was my first, and it was pretty darn cool. Every con is different and has something unique to offer; that's why I like going to different ones. For example, while it's Florida's largest anime-only convention, Metrocon is still pretty small when compared to the giants like Otakon - but it's still a great con, and offers a kind of charm and a few unique attractions that Otakon doesn't have. Anime Festival Orlando is TINY (probably about as big as Animazement, give or take a tiny bit), but it's alot of fun. They're all different, but they're all fun. At least the ones I've been to. ^^

I didn't go to animazement this year cause my ride bowed out on me last minute but my little sister and friend went and they had a great time. Small cons just seem more... personal than big ones, not as loud, not as crowded, everyone can sorta get to know each other and be a litle more laid back. I went to Anime USA once and thier dealer's room was a lot smaller than Animazement's for some reason ![O_o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/browraise.png) and it was a lot more expensive :/ ota Kon is 60$ for 3 days but animazement is like... 45 at the door, or 30 if you preorder :3 and up untill last year you didn't even have to pay to get a table in artists alley ^_^ I do want to go to otakon (why the "k" anyway? "c" makes sense cause... you know... convention?) one of these years but yuuurg, I just hate spending all that money... and this summer I didn't even have it really ^^;

The K in Otakon comes from "Otaku". ^^
The reason Otakon is so expensive is because not only does it take over the ENTIRE Baltimore Convention Center, the Masquerade also fills up the local sports arena. Those two places are very expensive, and then there's paying all the people that go with it....
And I do agree with you about small cons. While the big ones are fun in a different way, I like the little ones. Especially AFO - the hotel that hosts it is made up of several apartment-like buildings and the hotel has its own mini convention center. It's like its own little convention village back there. Pretty neat.
Metrocon is perfect; it's big and small at the same time. Big-con excitement, small-con charm. Plus a Publix right down the road for good eats and fun reactions to cosplay. ^_~

Like she said, Otaku + con = Otakon. keeping the K in there makes more sense. Otacon from Metal Gear Solid is actually named after Otakon. he says in the first name that his name means otaku convention. And she's right on the other count too. Otakon is one of the biggest in the US for several reasons. They no longer hold concerts in the BCC because they're so big. Some people come to the U.S. JUST FOR THE CONCERTS. the local restuarants and hotels almost all have deals for the con. I've made a bunch of friends at the con too. The Naruto cosplay photoshoot will now be a yearly thing for me. I'd like to visit other cons like katsu, but so far I haven't been able to. Katsu, for one, coinsides woth my birthday.

We won the Metrocon costume contest on the day of our Itachi's birthday. Hehe.
And yeah, anime fans pretty much RULE the city of Baltimore that weekend.
