I'm putting off making a glove and boot tutorial...i want to make sure eveyrthing is perfect...gloves are hard. i can only make armor. I don't really do cloth or stuff like that. if it's made with fiberglass. I'm your man. I wanna find out how to do other things. the cosplay.com shop sucks...they don't tell you what the hell things do...

What I don't like is how they don't tell you what fiber the wigs are made out of. To have a high quality wig, you need either kanekalon (preferred) or tokyokalon (almost as good) fibers.... but with their shop, you could be getting anything!

And I have no freakin' clue what Wonderflex and Fosshape is! THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY PICTURES OR DESCRIPTIONS! I mean, it says that the stuff can be molded when hot, but shouldn't a website that's supposed to be all about the cosplay really should give you a link tha says "this is how you do this, so you don't spend 30 dollars on something you have NO clue how to work or what it'd be good for."

I guess they make you rely on the forums for that. Bah.

Good, Good. ^_^ I actually think this one will come in quite handy. I like that. Your end results may vary. You may find something to use for the surface that differ from fiberglass. whatever it is, I wish you luck, and happy exploring. I'll eventually be putting up a fiberglass tutorial. And I'm glad this one has been helpful.

I got one at one of those temporary halloween stores. Those party places that sell costume stuff year round should have them too. Or you could order em off ebay.

Heh..Fiberglass...isn't that used for insulation???
I'm probably going to raid the family art stuff *most of which is mine* and work on it a bit. Do you have any suggestions for making the sword a bit more sturdy??

Fiberglass doesn't just come in the form of insulation. It's also used for things like the hulls of boats. That type of fiberglass is more like what you'd use for props, but Shini can explain that better than I can.
I'd imagine paper mache would make a nice stabilizer if you use enough of it, then put some bondo over that....

that'd work. it wouldn't be as sturdy as fiberglass, but it'd work. it'd be really thick though. The idea behind fiberglass is it doesn't get very thick in order to be sturdy. if you really need to use something besides fiberglass, i'd try hot glue. believe it or not. it won't be REALLY sturdy, but it'll be thinner than papier mache and still have some hold. the aluminum tape is important though. another thing you could do is use many layers of it. it's not going to be that bend resistant, so i recommend if you need to use something besides fiberglass you use a few extra layers of aluminum tape, press it down with something hard, then use the hot glue. you can smooth it out or sand it down if you're feeling brave. then get some bondo putty, spread it all over, smooth it out, let it dry then sand it down. it won't be as good as fiberglass and putty, but once again, you get the idea. Fiberglass that is used in costume making looks kind of like maple syrup. it's yellowish and syrupy. it doesn't smell good, and hardens like a rock when enough hardner is used and it's allowed to dry. it looks kind of like amber but without the same luster. it's a resin, so it's pretty much the same, only a lot nastier to get on you.

I dread the making of the Gun tutorial though...kinda. The last gun we made was for my Vash costume I did for Otakon '05 and '04. in '04, a random fangirl Glomped me and broke it in one fell swoop. I getto fixed it with ducktape for the next day (>_> a metal pin helped hold it together from the start, so didn't need that sticking somebody) at that point, the painting was crappy and such because spray paint doesn't take well to fiberglass. Takes like a wonder to putty though. now, the current one is still kinda crappy, but I to wanna redo it. it will even have the flip-down thingy, and I'll have speed loaders, so it should look cool. And I'll try to get Shi to post the pictures of my Albel claw thus far, and show you all exactly what it is.
