As I already mentioned in my little "hello" speech, I've been talking to the absolutely friendly-as-a-warm-fireplace-with-hot-coco-on-a-negative-10-degree-day Heather for some time now. Today we were talking about American history when the conversation segued into Broken Glass.
This is actually rather rare, because I figure that she probably hears enough about her comic to want a break sometimes, but I figured that I might as well ask a question I had been wondering, even though I didn't expect an answer. Well, turns out ask and you shall receive (or at least in part) and I got a very interesting pseudo spoiler resulting in some half baked theories of mine. I shall put down the conversation below, followed by an expanded version of my personal theory. You can probably figure this out for yourself, but I'm Adama Ish and she's --RENThead "You Shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns"
Adama Ish says (12:19 AM):
BTW, any hints on how much success Alice will have convincing his step bro that Wonderland IS real and is NOT good?
--RENThead-- "You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns... says (12:20 AM):
haha. well. more success in the former than the latter.
Adama Ish says (12:20 AM):
interesting
--RENThead-- "You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns... says (12:20 AM):
Jett's more of the type who has to learn through experience
Adama Ish says (12:20 AM):
AKA dumb jock?
--RENThead-- "You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns... says (12:20 AM):
mm, I wouldn't say that
he's smart. just headstrong
Adama Ish says (12:20 AM):
ah
Adama Ish says (12:21 AM):
I have a feeling that there might me hints in these statements about run ins with the Cheshire Cat resulting in multiple switchings of sides
*be
Adama Ish says (12:22 AM):
not me
--RENThead-- "You shall not press down upon the brow of labor this crown of thorns... says (12:22 AM):
interesting theory ^_^
Now for the meat on the bones that my MSN conversation kind of provided. First off, Heather is pretty darn good at weaving a yarn. I mean, she really is. Because of this, I don't think that she would be happy with a simple fetch-quest style quest where Alice pretty easily convinces Jett, and then the two of them go into Wonderland, rescue the dame, and get out. THEREFORE we need a way to add some major problems of some type before we can get everyone home.
Now, as anyone who has played American McGee's Alice knows, Heather's Wonderland is a lot more like it than the one created by Lewis Carroll (which is by the way unintentional, considering that she's never played the game). This isn't a group of mostly harmless beings, it's some REALLY messed up people. However, unlike McGee, Heather sees the Cheshire Cat as a perfect villain, probably because he's one of the few smart characters IN wonderland (just my conjecture, not based on anything she says) and you need someone with brains to have a good mastermind. However, although it has not yet been shown in the comic I would guess that he can be very friendly in a very convincing way when he wants to.
Now, Jett is already a bit skeptical of Alice's judgment right now, and skepticism is something the Cheshire cat could take major advantage of that through several means. For the sake of argument, well use claiming that Alice is having problems which need fixing, and that the best way that Jett can help him is by going along with what the Cat says. So, assuming this was the plot line actually used, the Cat could turn Jett upon the one person who could save his sister, and try to imprison him or otherwise neutralize him not for evil reasons, but because he truly believes it is the right thing to do.
Of course in such a story the brainwashed party usually breaks free and ends up kicking their captor in the but, and I expect that will happen in Broken Glass as well, but not for a while. I think that a lot of things will happen first, and that we may be seeing Alice solo for a while. In the mean time it's anyone's guess, but one thing we DO know for certain based on what our fearless leader says is that Jett will begin to believe about Wonderland a lot sooner than he will believe that it's a bad place.
So anyway, what do you, the readers of my rant, think of my theory? Bogus? On the Dot? Some good and bad? Give me your impressions if you don't mind, because I'd like to hear them, and while you're at it how about you tell me what YOU think the interpretation of Jet Believing about Wonderland long before he starts believing it's bad really. I look forward to a good discussion.
