Okay, In order to pull off a good Jiraiya I figure I have to get a large martial arts gi and dye it green. ( wash it a bunch with fabric softner too ) Jiraiya basically wears a green gi, with a ninja mail shirt underneath and a red vest on top. His pants are gi pants with ninja mail underneath. I've got the shoes, made the headband and hand guards. The wig should be done once my friend comes back from japan. The vest shouldn't be too hard to make and all the props that I plan on having will either be bought or Easy to make, so the Gi is my problem....if anyone knows where I could get what I need I'd appreciate it. I'd rather not trust Ebay for such a thing.

A martial arts store should have what you need. You can look them up in your area using the yellow pages (either paper or online), or you can google martial arts stores online. But personally I think you're better trying to buy the stuff from a store where you can try it on and stuff.
Do you know how to sew/have someone who could teach you? The gi is actually very simple to make, and while some companies make costume patterns for generic ninja characters, normal patterns could also be used with a few easy modifications. That'd actually be the easiest in my opinion, and probably the most cost-effective.

do you have any idea where i might be able to find patterns? I can hand sew pretty well. and I'd rather pay for a pattern that I can have someone help modify than buy an expensive gi. I know I can find them in martial arts stores, but they can be pretty costly. and if I can make them out of an appropriate green material that'd be best.

I did some googling myself after I posted that, and store-bought gi are insanely expensive. You can get patterns at any local fabric store. They have whole sections for them. Either get them off the little spinning rack things, or you can find one in the huge catalogs they have there and then look it up by pattern number in one of the big metal drawers.... if that makes any sense.
But yeah, just ask an employee where the patterns are and you're set. ^_^

okays, i'll check out the local Joanne Fabrics when I get a chance. I have to get some snaps in order to finish up my cosplay projects anyway. let's see...my other cloth projects are Anubis' cape and Jiraiya's vest. The vest should be pretty easy.

Yeah, you won't have a problem with that.
